The Social Networks

It's amazing how people can claim to  have "relationships" without ever talking to another in person. I love social networks, don't get me wrong. They are a great way to keep in contact with family and friends you aren't able to see that often. But to think of the 100, 200, 300+ "friends" a person can have on a social network, and live in the SAME city, or county for that matter, and never take the 5, 10, 20 minute drive to see them IN PERSON is just unthinkable.

I guess I shouldn't act like my shit don't stink, but I know my shit DOES stink. I know i'm very much as guilty as anyone else of not taking the 5 minute drive to see a friend. Instead I, facebook message them, or text them, or email them. And can claim to be best of friends with someone. Wrong.

How different it must have been before telephones, cellphones, laptops, pagers. How different it must have been to walk next door to play a board game with your neighbor, instead of getting on your video game console to play "live" with your next door neighbor. How different it must have been for family's to sit together to listen to the radio instead of sit together to be on their cellphones and not say one word to each other.

How different...
Then....
And Now...

And parents wonder why they didnt see the signs that their son/daughter was deppressed? Lonely? Isolated?

WAKE UP WORLD

We don't spend half the time that we spend on the internet, that we do actually intereacting with our family or friends in person.

Ironic isn't it? Me... pointing out the fact that we need to spend less time on the internet and more time with our family and friends?

Like I said, I know my shit stinks. This is my problem too. Maybe it's just something we all have to get used to.

"Times are a changin'..."
